Getting organized before the surgery

Getting organized before the surgery

Before your surgery, you will be asked to prepare a letter of referral, various medical documents, information about your regular medications, and more. A clear list will be given to you at the Preoperative Clinic. Prepare all the required documents and materials and bring them with you to the hospital on the day of the surgery. Also bring personal equipment and special assistive devices if you have been so instructed. We recommend not bringing valuables to the hospital, as we cannot be responsible for any damage or loss.

Preparing for the surgery

The staff of the Preoperative Clinic will instruct you on how to prepare for the surgery at home in terms of bathing and cleanliness. Make sure to follow those instructions. Before you come to the hospital, remove any nail polish, makeup, and jewelry. In most cases, you will need to fast completely on the day of the surgery – no food, drink, smoking, chewing gum, or candy.

After the surgery, you will be moved to the recovery ward. If the procedure requires hospitalization, after waking from the anesthesia, you will proceed, accompanied by a staff member, to the appropriate ward for intake.

Overnight, if possible and if needed, a companion will be permitted to stay with you. During your hospitalization, you will be monitored by the medical team and cared for by various professionals, such as physiotherapists, as needed. All of the department staff, including the doctors and the nursing staff, are available to help make your hospital stay as pleasant as possible, alleviate any discomfort, and answer any question.
