Social Services

Social Services

The Social Services staff at Assuta Ashdod Hospital meet the psychological and social needs of inpatients and their families. We are sensitive to the experience of our patients and their families and work towards discharge plans with an eye to the community.

The social workers in our departments and institutes help patients and their families deal with crises that stem from disease, trauma, traffic accidents, work injuries, and the effects of hospitalization on their daily lives.

Our work model is based on biopsychosocial assessment and multidisciplinary teamwork. Our staff provide short-term assistance, as well as long-term assistance in the institutions. The assistance can be given on an individual, couple, family, or group basis. It focuses on crisis intervention, support and reinforcement of existing networks around the patient, problem-solving, discharge plans including continuity of care from the hospital to the community, and help in exercising rights.

The Social Services Department is prepared and qualified to assist in emergency situations as well. Our social workers are the first to meet the injured and their families in mass-casualty events. They are the link between the medical staff, the patients and their families.

The Social Services Department receives requests and inquiries from patients and/or their families, or directly to social workers from the medical or nursing staff in the hospital’s various departments and institutes.

Some of the services provided by our department:

Appointing a legal guardian (“body guardianship”) for urgent action.

Handling transfer to long-term hospitalization or rehabilitation facilities.

Short-term nursing projects for Holocaust survivors after hospitalization.

Support for patients being treated for chronic diseases.

Care for at-risk populations: women suffering from domestic violence, minors and elderly at risk.

“Our goal is to keep our focus on patients, their families, and their needs, at all times. We want to ease their hospital stay as much as possible, provide support, and help them communicate with staff as well as other support personnel. The encounter with a hospital is usually a complex and challenging event. We know this experience can be difficult and frightening. We are here to help each person finds the tools and strengths they need to meet those challenges in the best possible way.”
